Although I may not be as religious as some of my friends, I consider myself a deeply spiritual person. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason.
Our small company has been designing and selling products on Amazon for about 10 years. Every product we offer is our own creation—carefully designed and engineered in-house. We don’t just resell someone else’s work.
Eighteen months ago, while attending the International Home Show in Chicago, my partner introduced me to a company that caught our attention. They produce tableware made from recycled plastic, free of harmful BPAs, dishwasher-safe, and microwave-safe. Most plastic tableware in the U.S. is made from melamine, a substance banned in Europe and increasingly recognized as a potential carcinogen.
After meeting with this company, I was not only impressed by the quality of their product but also by the people behind it. That meeting marked the beginning of an 18-month journey to bring these bowls to market. We spent months rigorously testing the product to ensure it met our standards, and then began considering which item would be the best to introduce first.
We could have launched with any piece of tableware, but personally, I often find myself in need of more serving bowls. As someone with a Jewish background, I took time to research the current offerings for plastic bowls. While there were many adorned with the Star of David, I was searching for something more meaningful. Then, by chance, I came across a Facebook post about the Leningrad Codex. Intrigued, I delved into its history and was captivated. We loved one of the images from this 1,200 year old book and, after some effort, secured a high-quality image through a license with Getty Images.
For our second bowl design, we wanted to highlight iconic Hebrew symbols. I vividly recall the feeling of my grandfather guiding me through prayer in the synagogue, his arm around me, with a Seder in hand, pointing out where we were in the text. I wanted to recreate that shared experience for parents and children—a connection to discuss the significance and origins of these symbols. After working closely with two talented artists, we developed a design that we are truly proud of.
It is our hope that you will be as proud to display these bowls as we are to bring them to market.
